What is tip plasty?

Tip-Plasty is a cosmetic procedure addressing any defection of the nasal tip. Tip-Plasty (bulbous or rounded tips) is a great solution when the other parts of the nose don’t annoy you.

Tip Plasty vs. Rhinoplasty

Imagine your nose is beautiful; the nasal tip is the petal that adds the finishing touch to its beauty. But, just like a flower needs pruning to bloom, sometimes our nasal tips need a little tweak to look their best.

That’s where Tip Plasty and Rhinoplasty come in!

Tip Plasty: The Petal Pruning

Tip Plasty is a type of RhinoPlasty focusing on correcting the nasal tip. It’s like pruning the petals of our flowers to make them more symmetrical, refined, and beautiful. This procedure is ideal for those who want to:

  • Refine the nasal tip shape
  • Enhance the tip projection (how far the tip sticks out)
  • Improve the tip rotation (how the tip angles)
  • Correct minor asymmetries

Think of Tip Plasty as a precision haircut for your nose – it’s all about subtle adjustments to achieve a more balanced and harmonious look.

Rhinoplasty: The Full-Fledged Nose Makeover

Rhinoplasty, on the other hand, is a more comprehensive procedure that involves reshaping the entire nose. It’s like giving your flower a complete makeover – changing its shape, size, and proportions. Rhinoplasty can address a wide range of concerns, including:

  • Reshaping the bridge, tip, and nostrils
  • Correcting breathing issues
  • Enhancing the overall nasal shape and proportions
  • Resolving structural issues

Rhinoplasty is a more extensive procedure that requires a deeper understanding of nasal anatomy and the expertise of a skilled surgeon.

Candidates for Tip rhinoplasty

In the following lines, we will mention which nasal tip characteristics can be done by tip Plasty:

  • too short tip that needs to be more defined
  • a rounded or bulbous tip that is not in harmony with another facial component
  • droopy nasal tip
  • the upward tip in which nostrils are too visible, the “so-called piggy nose,”
  • too pointy nasal tip

The procedure of tip Plasty vs. Rhinoplasty

  1. Tip Plasty procedure: According to the surgeon’s diagnosis, two general types of tip Plasty can be employed: cartilage surgery and Alar reduction.

A:(cartilage surgery):

  • Cartilage tie: This is for candidates with a pointed nasal tip who want to get it sharper and protrude.

After analyzing the tip structure, the plastic or ENT surgeon will tie the alar cartilage.

He will try to either trim a portion or remove the cartilage.

  • Cartilage implant tip Plasty is the procedure for candidates with flat noses due to extra fat. In these cases, the surgeon removes all fat and replaces it with the implant.
  • As the name implies, cartilage repositioning tip Plasty deals with changing the septum cartilage and placing it in the desired area.

This method is generally used for those suffering from upturned and short noses.

On the other hand, this type can be helpful for revision rhinoplasty or for an injured nose where the nasal bridge is sunken.

This method is the most complicated under cartilage surgery since it manipulates the cartilage, skin, and septum. Depending on the condition of the nose, an implant may also be required.

B: Alar reduction

  • The removal method involves cutting the extra skin in the alar. The incision will be made in the lower part to hide the stitch.
  • It is good to mention that this type is suggested for those with wide nostrils and excess skin in the alar. It can also be helpful for nasals with thick skin.
  • Tie:  This method involves an incision inside the nostrils to reduce size and tie the skin between them.

This method has a positive aspect: the stitches are inside the nose, which means they are not visible. It is also recommended for people who want a more natural appearance.

Rhinoplasty procedure:

As mentioned before, rhinoplasty is an operation that manipulates the whole nose structure. There are two common types of Rhinoplasty :

  • Closed Rhinoplasty:

In closed nasal surgery, the surgeon makes all the necessary incisions from inside the nose. The minimal skin is then separated from its cartilaginous-bony structure and held high with a unique tool to give the surgeon better access. However, the closed method will limit the doctor’s binocular vision.

If the cartilage in the nose needs to be corrected, it will be removed from the skin through the incisions made inside the nose after it is released.

  • Open Rhinoplasty :

During an open rhinoplasty procedure, a small cut is made inside the edge of the nostril. Another incision is made in the thin area of skin between the nostrils. These incisions connect the inside and outside of the nose to reshape it.

In this case, the surgeon separates the nasal skin from the underlying structure and lifts it quickly. In this method, the doctor simply masters all the anatomy and defects of the nose, and better access to the tip of the nose will be possible.

At the same time, this method is better for correcting asymmetry and placing and fixing cartilage bonds. Also, secondary (reconstructive) rhinoplasty is possible only with open Rhinoplasty.

How long does tip Plasty take?

Since tip Plasty involves the manipulation of the nasal tip, it takes longer than Rhinoplasty.

Tip Plasty typically takes only 40 minutes, while rhinoplasty takes 1.5 to 2 hours.

Cost of tip plasty and Rhinoplasty

Cost of tip plasty in Iran

Because tip Plasty is part of the main rhinoPlasty procedure, it is cheaper than the original procedure. However, in general, the exact price of this operation cannot be stated before examining the patient’s condition, and the person should refer to a specialist doctor to be informed about the cost of tip Plasty.

Also, since this procedure can be performed under local anesthesia and even in the office, it does not cost much, as the operating room cost is eliminated.

On the other hand, destination, surgeon reputation, and case severity can define the total price of tip Plasty. In Iran, tip Plasty costs between $900 and $1500.

Recovery from tip Plasty and Rhinoplasty

Both tip Plasty and rhinoplasty are typically outpatient procedures, and patients can return home the same day.

Tip Plasty is a rhinoplasty procedure with a much shorter recovery period. Unlike other rhinoplasty procedures, your treatment and care period will end soon, and you can return to daily life. This is very important for some people, such as athletes, actors, pilots, etc.

You can start daily activities, such as going to school or work, 3-4 days after tip Plasty, but the rhinoplasty recovery period is 8-9 days.

Positive points of Tip Plasty

  • Shorter recovery period
  • less price
  • There are no risks of anesthesia
  • permanent result
  • invisible incision

Is Tip Plasty safe?

Usually, rhinoplasty is one of the safest cosmetic operations experienced specialists provide.

The above-tip plastics are procedures done under local anesthesia and only with the nasal tip; therefore, they are much safer than general rhinoplasty.

Pre-op preparation before tip Plasty

  • Before tip Plasty, inform your surgeon if you are on any medication.
  • Avoid aspirin and blood thinners for two days before surgery.
  • Avoid vitamin E for two days before surgery
  • Avoid smoking for at least ten days before surgery.
  • If you have a severe disease, let your surgeon know. You will also need to take some blood tests before surgery.
  • Inform your doctor if you are allergic to any kind of medication.

Post-op care after tip Plasty

  • The first two nights after tip Plasty, put two pillows under your head while you sleep.
  • Put the cold compress next to the nose for two days (at least 15 minutes every hour)
  • Take a bath three days after the operation.
  • Remove the nasal tape slowly and upwards after thoroughly soaking the nose under the shower.
  • Change your nose tape only three times a week.
  • Use nasal spray 7 to 8 times daily, with two puffs in each hole.
  • Use tetracycline ointment twice a day at the sutures.
  • Apply the restorative ointment twice a day for a month ointment at the external suture site after suture removal and discontinuing tetracycline.
  • Sutures can be removed one week after surgery.
  • Exercise is possible five weeks after the operation.
  • Glasses can be used five weeks after the operation. If you need medical glasses, they must be stuck to the forehead and not come into contact with the nose.
  • Do not use ear cleaner to clear your nose.
  • Remove the cotton inside the nose and the gas under the nose two hours after the tip plasty operation.
  • Watery discharge is normal for 2 to 3 days.

Is tip Plasty a permanent procedure?

Unlike other non-surgical methods, such as nose lifts with floss or plasma, which are non-professional and non-surgical procedures, tip Plasty is a subset of rhinoPlasty. As its name implies, this nasal surgery is related to the tip of the nose, and it is the type of rhinoplasty that focuses on changing the tip of the nose. Therefore, tip Plasty, like rhinoPlasty, is a surgery with a permanent outcome.

What is the right age for tip Plasty?

Tip Plasty and rhinoPlasty have the exact age requirements. For both, one must be at least 18 years old.

How long will swelling last after tip Plasty?

As mentioned, tip Plasty has a shorter recovery duration than a general nose job. An average of six months is required for swelling to disappear, and one year is necessary for the final result of rhinoplasty.

How long after tip Plasty should I use nasal tape?

Two months is required; it helps with sooner healing.

Does tip Plasty remove nasal deviation or fracture?

Indeed, Tip Plasty means rhinoplasty only on the tip of the nose.

This method is used on people who do not need exceptional work on the bridge of the nose; in fact, it is for those whose tip of the nose could be better shaped, round, and drooping.

Therefore, tip Plasty can’t be employed for these deformities; they must undergo general rhinoplasty.

Is there any limitation on food and diet after tip Plasty?

There are no dietary restrictions after tip Plasty except to reduce salt intake.

What is the difference between plastic and Rhinoplastic?

In the tip Plasty operation, the nasal hump can be removed up to 5 mm, and the tip of the nose can be removed more and be higher.

However, in rhinoplasty, all kinds of deformities and abnormalities, even breathing problems, can be corrected.

What tests should be done before tip Plasty?

    Blood tests include:

    • coagulation test
    • viral and blood cell status

Can previously operated noses be re-operated using the tip-plasty type method?

The answer is yes if the deformities are in the tip area. Otherwise, open rhinoplasty can be the only working method.

Is a splint and tampon used in tip Plasty?

It depends on the surgeon’s preference. Some surgeons use tip Pasty, and some don’t. In addition to tipping Pasty, some surgeons don’t use a tampon in rhinoplasty operations, either.

Does health insurance cover Tip Plasty?

Since tip Plasty is a type of cosmetic procedure, it cannot be supported by insurance companies.

Are absorbent sutures used in tip Plasty surgery, or should they be removed after a while?

Yes, it takes about six months to absorb in the interior. However, the external area should be removed within five days.

    Is the incision visible?

In tip Plasty, all incisions are performed on the lower nasal toas to make them visible.
