A comparison of before and after septoplasty
- Before: Prior to surgery, the patient will consult with the surgeon to discuss goals and examine nasal anatomy. Pre-operative tests like blood work and CT scans may be performed. The patient is instructed to stop taking certain medications that increase bleeding risk.
- After: After septoplasty, the nose will be packed with splints or stents to support the septum as it heals. These are removed after a week. Swelling and bruising around the nose and eyes are common for a few weeks. Most people take 10-14 days off work. Results are not visible right away, but the nose will continue to heal and improve for several months. Most patients report improved breathing and aesthetics.

What is a septoplasty?
Septoplasty is a surgical procedure to correct a deviated septum, which is when the wall between the nostrils is crooked or off-center. During septoplasty, the surgeon straightens the septum, allowing for better airflow through the nose.
Straightening and realigning the septum through septoplasty can establish the necessary structural foundation for later enhancement of the nasal profile through revision rhinoplasty in iran.
Why is septoplasty done?
Septoplasty treats nasal obstruction and breathing difficulties caused by a deviated septum. It may also be done for aesthetic reasons if the crooked septum makes the nose appear off-center.
Many ethnic rhinoplasty in iran patients can benefit from septoplasty to straighten the septum prior to reshaping the nose. By doing so, they will be able to achieve desired aesthetic results in harmony with their facial features.
How is surgery performed?
It is typically done under general anesthesia. The surgeon makes incisions inside the nose to access and reshape the septum cartilage and bone. The tissue is then repositioned and stabilized with stitches and splints.
How long is surgery?
Surgery usually takes 1-2 hours to complete.
What are the risks and complications?
Like any surgery, there are risks of bleeding, infection, and anesthesia reactions. Other potential risks include persistent numbness, nasal drainage, or septum perforation.
When can I see the results?
Though splints and swelling will obstruct some results initially, breathing improvement is noticeable immediately. Final aesthetic results are visible after several months of healing.
What is the maximum number of septoplasties we can have?
It’s rare for a person to need more than three surgeries to correct a deviated septum in their lifetime. Some people may need another surgery years later. More than three surgeries can be problematic. If you have persistent breathing problems, you might want to try alternative procedures. If you use the right techniques and post-operative care, you won’t have to go through repeat surgeries. Scarring and tissue damage can make repeated surgeries risky and limited. It’s usually just one or two separated by a long time.

How do I take care of myself after septoplasty in Iran?
Plan to rest completely on the first day. Do not squeeze or even touch the nose. Even if you have a congested nose, do not blow your nose because it carries a risk of nosebleeds. If you have to sneeze, do it from your mouth.
To reduce pain and swelling after septoplasty in Iran, use ice packs placed in a clean cloth or towel on your nose and eyes. When sleeping, place two pillows under your head to reduce swelling and congestion caused by surgery.
Do not take a shower or bath in the first 24 hours after septoplasty in Iran. Avoid contact with different people for a while to prevent colds, which can increase the risk of infection after surgery. Also, avoid being in polluted and dusty places.
You can usually resume your daily activities one week or two after septoplasty in Iran and return to work or school. However, you still need to avoid activities that may cause you to fall or put pressure on your nose or hurt it.
For example, not only is lifting heavy objects forbidden to you, even straining while defecating will not be in your favor! Also, avoid bending your head and doing strenuous exercise for one to two months.
See your doctor as scheduled because your stitches will need to be removed by your surgeon if they are not dissolvable.
What is the septoplasty recovery time ?
Most people take 7-10 days off work or school. The splints are removed after a week. Swelling and bruising can last a few weeks. Complete healing takes several months.
How is the recovery period after septoplasty?
Since septoplasty in Iran is done through incisions inside the nostrils, fortunately, you do not have to worry about leaving a visible scar after the surgery. There is usually no bruising around the eyes.
However, you may have a tenderness on the front of your nose after septoplasty. Nasal congestion is also common due to swelling and discharge of blood and mucus from the nasal passages.
The swelling usually goes away after 2 to 3 days, but drainage may continue for 2 to 5 days.
Pain after septoplasty is minor and is usually controlled with over-the-counter medications, however, your doctor may prescribe stronger painkillers.
The surgeon also helps to relieve nasal congestion and sterilizes the nasal passage by prescribing salt sprays or irrigation treatments. If the pack is placed inside your nose, you should breathe through your mouth until it comes out. It takes about 3 months for the nose to reach a relative recovery.
