I went in February to Iran for a nose surgery. I arranged everything through Health agency Iran. Shoheila is 24/7 available to you if needed. She was there for me whenever I needed her. My experience with Health agency Iran was beyond expectations. Good service, professionalism from day 1 until I went back to the Netherlands. I can recommend Shoheila from Health agency Iran to everyone. Please don't be put off by the media that Iran is a dangerous country. Because it's not!! Iran is a beautiful country and will definitely go back. @Shoheila keep going with the good work, you made a lot of people happy! ❤️

I recommend that all future clients of the Iran Health agency ask for Soheila because she is simply the best. Not only does she take all the time to answer your questions before you leave, but she comes to pick you up at the airport, takes you to restaurants, goes shopping with you. Because I was more comfortable being taken care of in my own room, Soheila arranged this for me, so a super friendly nurse came to take care of me every morning in my room at the hotel. Soheila stayed by my side in the hospital and also took me to my room, after discharge. She also helps with your choices of hotels and relaxation. Once home, she sends regular messages to ask how I am doing. Do not hesitate, choose Soheila at Iran Health clinic.

I came to iran for implant surgery and cat eye surgery and I was quite scared but thank god I had Soheila! I went 3 times total and all the times I went with Soheila cause I had such a good experience! she helped me every step of the way took me to the hospital and spoke to nurses and doctors (which don’t speak English so thank god I had her) and booked the hotel at a much cheaper rate than what I would have paid if booked it on my own! She helped me save so much money with a discount from the doctor too! And overall she took care of me after surgery and made sure I had all the medication I needed she even took me around tehran when I was feeling better (for free as a friend?!) like she’s genuinely such a nice and kind person I loved iran… but it was because of her! If I went alone I would have not liked iran as much! She’s a must if you want to get surgery there!!! If you want to see more I have highlights stories on my IG account @mattrandon about my whole experience in iran

Reconstructing Lives: Burn Survivors Find Hope in Iran’s Expertise and Affordability

Reconstructive burn surgery is a type of plastic surgery that aims to improve the appearance and function of the skin and tissue damaged by burns. Reconstructive burn surgery in Iran is performed by experienced and skilled surgeons who use advanced techniques and equipment.

Surviving a severe burn injury is just the first step on a long and difficult road to recovery. Reconstructive surgery, involving multiple complex procedures like skin grafts and scar releases, is often necessary to restore function and a normal appearance. This life-changing surgery can carry an immense financial burden, even in wealthy nations with advanced healthcare.

However, Iran has become an unlikely leader in providing high-quality reconstructive burn treatment at a remarkably affordable cost. Attracting patients from across the Middle East and beyond, Iran’s top burn care specialists utilize innovative techniques to achieve exceptional reconstructive results. We examined the Iranian approach to unlock the keys to their success in reconstructing burn survivors’ bodies and lives.

Techniques for Reconstructive Burn Surgery

Reconstructive burn surgery can involve various techniques, depending on the location, size, and depth of the burn injury, as well as the patient’s goals and expectations. Some of the common techniques are:

  • Skin grafting: This is the most frequently used technique for reconstructive burn surgery. It involves transferring a thin layer of skin from a healthy donor site (usually the thigh, buttock, or abdomen) to the burn site. Skin grafting can help cover large wounds, reduce fluid loss, prevent infection, and improve healing.
  • Skin flap: This is a technique that involves transferring a thicker layer of skin, along with the underlying fat, muscle, or bone, from a nearby donor site to the burn site. Skin flap can provide better blood supply, sensation, and contour than skin grafting, but it requires more surgical skill and may leave more noticeable scars.
  • Tissue expansion: This is a technique that involves inserting a balloon-like device under the skin near the burn site and gradually inflating it with saline solution. This causes the skin to stretch and grow, creating excess skin that can be used to cover the burn site. Tissue expansion can help avoid donor site morbidity and achieve better cosmetic results, but it requires multiple surgeries and a longer recovery time.
  • Microsurgery: This is a technique that involves using a microscope and specialized instruments to perform delicate and precise surgical procedures. Microsurgery can be used to transfer skin, muscle, nerve, or bone from distant donor sites to the burn site, or to repair damaged blood vessels or nerves. Microsurgery can help restore complex functions and structures, but it requires high expertise and may have higher risks of complications.
  • Laser therapy: This is a technique that involves using a high-intensity beam of light to treat burn scars. Laser therapy can help reduce the redness, thickness, and stiffness of burn scars, as well as improve the texture and appearance of the skin. Laser therapy can be performed as an outpatient procedure, but it may require multiple sessions and may cause temporary side effects such as pain, swelling, or blistering.

What surgical options exist?

Non-surgical treatments involve massaging scars or using pressure garments to slowly stretch the skin. Surgery focuses mainly on releasing contracted scars so you regain mobility. The plastic surgeon then closes the wound using skin grafts, skin flaps or tissue expansion. Less complex procedures are outpatient while major grafting requires hospitalization. Excellent results are common for the face, neck, arms and legs.

What happens at the first consultation?

Communication with your surgeon is key. Explain your goals so together you can understand realistic outcomes. Provide full medical history and medications. The surgeon will examine you and discuss potential risks. If having surgery, you’ll get a packet on how to prepare. Most procedures are outpatient but some need hospital stay. Arrange for someone to assist you getting home and in early recovery.

What’s recovery like and what happens next?

Follow all post-surgery instructions closely to heal properly and have the best possible result. Bandages, splints or casts may be used to protect healing skin grafts and wounds for several days. Stitches come out within 2 weeks at follow up appointments where function and scars get checked. More therapy might be ordered to improve motion consisting of exercises and splints over months. Keep all visits; ask questions. Your care team customizes everything for your situation and goals.

FAQ about Reconstructive burn surgery

Severe burns often leave disfiguring scars that tighten skin, limiting mobility and flexibility. Reconstructive techniques allow movement, reduce pain, restore normal appearance to facilitate social interaction and self-image.

The number needed for full reconstruction varies widely but usually involves 5-20 operations over several years. It’s a long process demanding psychological strength with support systems.

Growing skin in labs for grafting and nanotechnology-enabled synthetic skin substitutes may augment future treatment. Stem cell and fat grafting innovation also continue progressing.

Consistent physiotherapy maintains mobility between operations and after reconstruction is complete. Stretching scar tissue is vital to augment surgical releases and grafts to further improve function.

Advancements now allow remarkable restoration of form and function in even extensive injuries. Over 80% of patients report significantly improved quality of life in physical, social and psychological realms after completing reconstruction.
